Body Mass Index
Body Mass Index (BMI) is one of the most accurate ways to determine when extra kilograms translate into health risks. BMI is a measure which takes into account a person’s weight and height to gauge total body fat in adults. Someone with a BMI of 26 to 27 is about 20 percent overweight, which is generally believed to carry moderate health risks. A BMI of 30 and higher is considered obese. The higher the BMI, the greater the risk of developing additional health problems such as Diabetes, Heart Disease, and High Blood Pressure.

What your BMI result indicates...

Waist Circumference
Determine your waist circumference by placing a measuring tape snugly around your waist. It is a good indicator of your abdominal fat which is another predictor of your risk for developing risk factors for Heart Disease, Diabetes and other diseases. This risk increases with a waist measurement of over 80 cm (31.5") in men and over 90 cm (35.5") in women

Where to Measure
Measure waist at the navel in men, and midway between the bottom of the ribs and the top of the hip bone in women.
